What Is the Logitech C920?

The Logitech C920 HD Pro Webcam is a USB camera designed for video calls, recording, and streaming. It clips onto a laptop lid or monitor, or mounts on a standard tripod, and connects to a computer over USB. It has been one of Logitech's longest-running and most widely used webcam models since its release in 2012, and it remains a common choice for home offices, classrooms, and small studio setups.

On Windows, the C920 is a USB Video Class (UVC) device. That means Windows already includes the generic drivers needed to recognize the camera and its microphone the moment it's plugged in — there is no mandatory driver package you must locate and run before the camera will work. What Logitech provides on top of that baseline is an optional companion app for adjusting camera behavior in more detail, covered on the Setup Guide page.

Benefits of Using the C920 on Windows

Works without setup friction

Plug-and-play recognition through Windows' built-in UVC support means most people are up and running within a minute of connecting the camera.

Consistent image quality

Autofocus and automatic light correction help maintain a clear, well-exposed picture across different rooms and lighting conditions.

Lower CPU load

Onboard H.264 encoding offloads video compression to the camera itself, which is useful on lower-powered laptops during calls or recording.

Flexible placement

The clip and tripod thread support desk, monitor, or external mount setups for calls, recording, or streaming.

Broad compatibility

Works with common Windows video applications (Teams, Zoom, the built-in Camera app, OBS, and others) without application-specific configuration.

Long-term support

As a mature, widely deployed model, community documentation and Logitech's own support resources for the C920 are well established.
