Windows Doesn't Detect the Camera
-
Try a different USB port
Connect directly to a port on the computer itself rather than through an unpowered hub, dock passthrough, or extension cable, which can sometimes provide insufficient power or bandwidth.
-
Check Device Manager
Open Device Manager and look under "Cameras" or "Imaging devices." A yellow warning triangle next to the C920 usually means Windows couldn't finish setting up the built-in driver — right-click the entry and choose "Update driver," then "Search automatically."
-
Restart, not just reconnect
A full restart clears out USB controller states that a simple unplug/replug sometimes doesn't.
-
Run Windows Update
Windows periodically refreshes its built-in UVC and USB controller drivers. Checking for updates under Settings > Windows Update resolves a number of detection issues.
Camera Is Detected But Shows No Picture
- Check app permissions: Settings > Privacy & security > Camera, and confirm both "Camera access" and access for the specific app (browser, Zoom, Teams, etc.) are turned on.
- Close conflicting apps: Only one application can usually use the camera at a time. Close other video apps or browser tabs that might already have it open.
- Confirm the correct device is selected: Some apps default to a virtual or built-in laptop camera. Open that app's video settings and explicitly choose "HD Pro Webcam C920."
No Sound From the Microphone
- Open Settings > System > Sound and confirm "HD Pro Webcam C920" is selected as the input device, or select it manually inside your call application's audio settings.
- Check the input volume slider isn't set near zero, and that microphone permission is granted under Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone.
Image Looks Dark, Washed Out, or Blurry
- Lighting: Position a light source in front of you rather than behind you; strong backlight from a window will silhouette your face.
- Autofocus hunting: If the picture repeatedly blurs and refocuses, keep the area in front of the lens free of moving objects, or use the optional companion app to lock focus manually.
- Lens smudges: Wipe the lens with a dry, soft cloth — fingerprints from mounting are a common cause of soft-looking video.
Video Stutters or Drops Frames
- Move the camera to a USB port that isn't shared with other high-bandwidth USB devices (external drives, other cameras).
- Lower the resolution/frame rate in the app you're using if your CPU or USB bus is under heavy load elsewhere.
- Try a different USB cable if the current one is unusually long or of low quality.
Still Stuck?
For issues tied to a specific unit, warranty questions, or the optional companion app, Logitech's own support team has access to diagnostics this page does not.
